About POAH
Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve, create and sustain affordable, healthy homes that support economic security and access to opportunity for all.
Trauma-Informed Housing
Trauma-Informed Housing is an approach to the design and delivery of affordable rental housing that prioritizes people and their wellbeing. It combines two complementary frameworks: human-centered design and trauma-informed care.
In 2020, POAH organized a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners, including residents and frontline staff, to reimagine affordable rental housing. Trauma-Informed Housing is the result of their work and POAH’s ongoing implementation and learning.
We believe Trauma-Informed Housing is a more effective and empowering model for affordable housing that improves outcomes for residents, staff and communities. To join us on this journey, contact our team here.
Trauma-Informed Housing is a product of POAH’s Designing Trauma Resilient Communities project. The project was supported by the Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge.
